This week we'll wrap up our unit on Reconstruction and look at the birth of Jim Crow, the caste system that was implemented after the promise of interracial democracy was destroyed. We'll start by looking at how the history of Reconstruction was distorted during the Jim Crow era through films like Birth of a Nation and continue to interrogate the multi-faceted racist system of Jim Crow and how African Americans resisted its implementation. We'll end the week by looking at different strategies early activists used to fight the Jim Crow system.
