Week 16: December 12 - 16

This week we'll wrap our investigation of "Who led to the Civil War?" by looking at the argument that the election of Lincoln and the Republicans is what led to the Civil War. We'll compare and contrast that argument to the other ones we've read and look at a series of quotes from Lincoln and use them to answer two key questions: Was Lincoln against slavery? and Was Lincoln a racist? We'll also be communicating our conclusions on the question "Who led to the Civil War?" by writing a paragraph that can be later incorporated into our essay. And finally, we'll closely examine the text of the Emancipation Proclamation figuring out what it did and did not do.
