Week 10: October 31 - November 4

Writer: Adam SanchezAdam Sanchez

This week we'll focus on several questions that help us interrogate the contradictions of the origin of the United States: 1) Was the American Revolution fought to preserve slavery? and 2) Was the Constitution a pro-slavery document? After reading several arguments on different sides of these debates, we'll end with Frederick Douglass' famous 4th of July speech that will lead us into a poetry and art project about the contradiction between American ideals and reality.
