Week 21: January 25 - 29

Periods 3, 6, 7 and 8

This week we'll be continuing our unit on "Who Freed the Slaves?" and by focusing on the crucial period of the Civil War. We'll start with a close reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, watch a documentary about Lincoln and the Abolitionists, and finally jigsaw various readings from different historians on different actors during the war. You'll have three assignments detailed further in Google Classroom:

1) Emancipation Proclamation Questions

2) Edpuzzle: PBS - The Abolitionists

3) Civil War Jigsaw

Periods 2a and 2b

We'll finish up our discussion of "Who Led to the Civil War?" by looking at an article by Michael Woods on Lincoln and the Republican Party and reading some of Lincoln's words to better understand his position leading up to the Civil War. Finally, we'll begin writing a half-essay on the question "Who led to the Civil War?" - the first of the two smaller questions that will help us answer "Who Freed the Slaves?" You'll need a claim, reasoning, at least four pieces of evidence, and analysis.More details and resources for the half-essay are provided in Google Classroom.
