This week we'll be discussing the New Deal and the Great Depression. We'll begin by looking at class, race, and ideology and thinking about the question: Why did so many prominent African Americans join the Communist Party in the 1930s? Then we'll take a look at FDR and the New Deal and grapple with how many New Deal programs left out African Americans, while at the same time initiated an exodus of African American voters out of the Republican Party. All work will be in the writing and reading packets.
